The silent killer

Feeling stressed, anxious and sleep deprived is a reality for many people around the world. The good news is exercise can help you cope.

Prolonged stress leads to increased levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) in your body. Cortisol sometimes inflames your tissue. Not exercising causes the regulation of inflammatory and immune response to decrease. Your inflammation becomes a response to stress, and that’s why you sometimes feel physical aches and pains when you stress. On top of that, cortisol causes weight gain. Doing regular exercise reduces inflammation and helps reduce stress.
